January 2nd - Carolina Hurricanes President and General Manger Jim Rutherford made the announcement top-six forward Tuomo Ruutu underwent hip surgery in Colorado. Rutherford has been quoted as saying he didn't know how Ruutu sustained the injury, and believed that Ruutu wouldn't return before the end of the season.
